Hi all, we would like to give a big thank you to Professor Katie Rolan, instructor of Population Health and Applied Epidemiology for the University of the Pacific’s Entry Level Master of Nursing Program for hosting Angela Milo and AJ Caesar as guest speakers in her class today. Angela and AJ spent about 30 minutes discussing with the class about the history of IYSJ and our approach to writing a literature review with a class of about 40 students. This was an amazing experience for these two to gain experience speaking in a professional setting and to share their love for scientific writing with the world. To see the slideshow they presented, see the link here. For other guests speaker inquiries, please reach out to iysj.ajcaesar@gmail.com

March, 2023

Hi all, we are excited to announce the official date for our event “How to Digest a Research Paper” is set as Saturday March 25 @ 10am PST / 1 pm EST. You can sign up using this google form. This event is a wonderful opportunity to hear from other high school students with experience both writing and reading research papers on how you can best approach a research paper. We know that the length, vocabulary, and specificity of these papers can seem daunting, but they’re really not all that scary once you dive in and learn a few key strategies of how to approach them properly. We will be dissecting multiple articles, including Benchtop nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy enabled kinetic studies 3 and optimization of the synthesis of carmofur (well that’s a mouthful). Don’t worry, an intimidating title doesn’t mean a difficult read as long as you have a plan, which we will discuss at this meeting. So sign up and spread the word to your friends and family, as being able to quickly, efficiently, and accurately read research papers is a critical skill for any future scientist. Thanks again, the IYSJ Team!!

December 2022- Introducing “How to Digest a Scientific Article”: in March 2023, a group of authors and executives from the International Youth Scientists Journal will host a Zoom meeting where they will review tips, tricks, and strategies for how to read and understand complex scientific articles and research papers. Scientific research papers can be difficult to read and are often very unconventional compared to material that which students read in school, though they are much easier to understand once students know how to attack them head on. Learn this and more at ‘How to Digest a Scientific Article Meeting #1’ in January 2022. Email iysj.ajcaesar@gmail.com for details.

November 2022- Our first ‘Meet the Authors’ publicly accessible panel-style Zoom meeting in October 2022 was a fantastic success! Our December 2022 issue will soon release, and in the following weeks we will host multiple meetings for readers to meet the authors and ask about their work. Please reach out to iysj.ajcaesar@gmail.com if you are interested in attending.
